Franco Giannini was born in Galatina (LE) Italy, on November 9, 1944. He received the degree in Electronics Engineering, summa cum laude, in 1968.

Since 1980 is Full Professor of Applied Electronics, presently at the University of Rome "Tor Vergata", and Honorary Professor of the Warsaw University of Technology since 2001.
He has been working on problems concerning high frequency electronics and, more recently, on problems related to the sustainable generation of energy.
Prof. Giannini is a consultant for various national and international industrial and governmental organizations, including the International Telecommunication Union and the European Union and is a member of many Committees of International Scientific Conferences.

Franco Giannini authored or co-authored more than three hundred and sixty scientific papers.
